Well here I am I think. I have tried several times to throw something up here but I have yet to see them. I am hoping to possibly add a male perspective on the subject at hand. I was virtually on the inside tract in the beginning when the ladies first showed up on the grounds of Cape May. I began my journey on January 7, 1974 in "Romeo 89" with BMC John Miller. I graduated on March 15th and was assigned to permanent party, Forming Company. Two weeks into recruit training, the first females showed up, our sister company, literally. At first we were told to not even look t them. Not to much later, those of us that didn't smoke, learned how real quick so we could go out on smoke breaks together. Some us developed short lived relationships. I spent my graduation weekend in Cape May with a lady from that company who were on there first weekend liberty instead of going home on leave. I missed my mother's birthday and still here about that to this day. It was after being assigned to Forming Company that I would drive the big, grey Checker limo, picking new arrivals up from the bus station, ferry, and the airport. To begin with, ladies were formed up into thier own companies, but things changed and went co-ed. I played in Cape May for two years before going to ASM "A" School and spent the rest of career in the air.

Gary, you are my first memory of bootcamp. Who could ever forget that pleasant directive upon being picked up. Get in, sit down, shut up, no smoking, no talking. Hahaha its funny now, not so funny back then. I will say you were a little cutie with your aviator shades.
Gary,
I just read a post you put up on your blog Swimmer Chief. I had no idea the CC's picked their recruits, I always thought we were just assigned to wherever. Is this why they asked us about our military family members during forming week? How could they have favorites before they knew anyone? It's interesting knowing this since Jan and I come from different coasts but have very similar backgrounds, she was in India 90 and I in Kilo 90, both of us were chosen to represent our companies for IMD competitions. We both agreed at some time or other we thought these were rigged. Has there ever in your experience been a company go through that didn't make honor company?
